This Week’s Theme: Clarity
Clarity is one of those things we all pray for, especially when we’re in transition or facing something that just doesn’t make sense. We want to be sure. We want to get it right. And if we’re being real, most of us would rather have all the details before we move.
But God doesn’t always work like that.
In Joshua 3, the priests were carrying the Ark of the Covenant, and they had to step into the Jordan River before it parted. That water was still flowing when they got to the edge. But it wasn’t until their feet hit the river that the water stopped and dry ground appeared.
“And when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off from flowing.” — Joshua 3:13 (ESV)
God didn’t give them a miracle and then say, “Okay, now go.” He told them to move first. And that’s how it works sometimes. Clarity doesn’t always come before the step. It shows up as we trust Him in motion.
So this week, we’re talking about what it means to move with clarity. Not just making decisions that make sense on paper, but being in sync with God—His voice, His peace, His timing.
Because when you’re walking with God, you don’t have to have it all figured out. You just need to be willing to take the step He’s putting in front of you.
What Is Clarity, Spiritually Speaking?
Spiritual clarity isn’t about having everything lined up neatly. It’s about being able to recognize what God is doing in a moment. Clarity means:
- Knowing what God is asking of you right now
- Trusting His timing even when it doesn’t match yours
- Making Spirit-led decisions instead of fear-based ones
- Learning to pause and ask, “What is God saying here?”
Clarity is spiritual insight. It’s direction that doesn’t just make sense…it makes peace.
Why Clarity Matters
When you’re unclear, it’s easy to get stuck, second-guess yourself, or take unnecessary detours. But when you have clarity:
- You move with confidence, not confusion
- You stop saying yes to things God never assigned
- You recognize distractions faster
- You wait with purpose, not panic
- You know when to move and when to be still
“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” — 1 Corinthians 14:33 (ESV)
Clarity doesn’t mean ease. It means alignment. It doesn’t mean you won’t be stretched, but you’ll know you’re being stretched for the right reason.
When God Doesn’t Give You the Full Picture
Sometimes we think lack of clarity means something’s wrong with us—like maybe we missed it. But often, it just means God is doing something in us before He shows us what’s next.
Here’s the truth: God rarely gives the full picture up front. Why? Because He’s developing your faith, not your forecast.
Look at Abraham. God told him, “Go to the land I will show you” (Genesis 12:1). Not “here’s the GPS.” Just “go.”
Or Noah…he was given instructions to build an ark, but he had never seen rain. Yet he moved.
We’re not called to understand every detail. We’re called to trust the One who does.
What Gets in the Way of Clarity?
God isn’t trying to confuse you. He wants you to hear Him more than you want to get it right. But that doesn’t mean we’re always in a position to receive clearly. Sometimes the issue isn’t that God hasn’t spoken. It’s that we’ve got too much in the way.
Before you assume God is silent, ask yourself if something might be blocking your ability to hear. Here are some common things:
5 Common Things That Block Clarity
1. Too Much Noise
You can’t hear God clearly if everything else is louder. Turn down the noise so His voice can rise above it.
2. Fear of Making the Wrong Move
Overthinking leads to paralysis. God can redirect a moving vessel, but He rarely steers one that’s parked.
3. Disobedience or Delayed Obedience
Sometimes the last thing He told you is still waiting for your yes.
4. Over-reliance on Logic
Clarity doesn’t always make sense in the natural. God’s wisdom often looks foolish to the world (1 Corinthians 1:27).
5. Comparison
Looking at someone else’s lane will blur your own. Their clarity isn’t your confirmation.
How to Get Clear When Things Feel Cloudy
So what do you do when the fog won’t lift? When you want clarity but feel like you’re staring into a wall of “I don’t know”? You don’t push harder. You lean in closer. There’s always something you can do to position yourself to hear.
Here’s how you begin moving in clarity again:
1. Get Quiet Before God
Clarity begins in stillness. You can’t hear direction if you’re constantly rushing. Slow down. Sit with Him.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
2. Ask Boldly and Expectantly
God isn’t holding back. Ask Him for wisdom and believe He’ll respond.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God… and it will be given him.” — James 1:5 (ESV)
3. Write Down What You Hear
Journaling helps you track patterns and catch what you might’ve missed. Sometimes what felt unclear yesterday makes perfect sense today when you see it in writing.
4. Let Peace Be the Indicator
If it brings peace, not perfection, you’re probably on the right track.
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…” — Colossians 3:15 (ESV)
5. Take the Step Anyway
There are times God won’t say anything new until you do the last thing He said. Movement activates more instruction.
Grow Through It Questions:
1. Is there an area where I’ve been waiting for clarity when God’s already given me a step to take?
2. Am I confusing clarity with control? What would it look like to trust God more in this season?
Scripture Meditation for the Week:
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” — Psalm 32:8 (ESV)
You Don’t Have to See It All to Move
Sometimes clarity shows up in pieces. Sometimes it looks like a whisper, a sense of peace, or just one step that doesn’t fully make sense yet. But God knows the full picture. Your job is to trust Him enough to follow.
You don’t have to be afraid of missing it when you’re walking with the One who never misses anything. The same God who parted the waters for the priests in Joshua 3 is still leading you today.
Take the step. Even if the water’s still moving. He’s already made a way.
