Have you ever wondered why the same issue keeps showing up in your life, just dressed differently?
One week it’s procrastination. Another week it’s overwhelm. Sometimes it’s people-pleasing, and other times it’s that inner critic telling you you’re not enough.
Different fruit. Same root.
We spend a lot of time managing the surface, but healing happens when we look at what’s underneath.
Surface Problems Often Have Deeper Roots
Picture a tree. You see the leaves, the branches, the fruit. But you can’t see what’s going on underground. That’s where the nourishment or lack of it is coming from. That’s where disease starts. That’s where strength grows.
The same is true for us.
What shows up on the outside, your patterns, habits, and emotional triggers, is just the fruit. But the real work? That’s in the root.
What You Might Think Is the Problem… Isn’t
We tend to treat what’s visible.
We say:
– “I just need to get more organized.”
– “I should be more disciplined.”
– “I keep letting people walk all over me.”
But that’s not the root.
Here’s what it might actually look like:
Fruit: Perfectionism
Root: Fear of being rejected or seen as not enough
Fruit: Overcommitment
Root: Belief that your worth is tied to being needed or useful
Fruit: Procrastination
Root: Fear of failure or fear of success
Fruit: People-pleasing
Root: Deep need for approval or fear of abandonment
Fruit: Control
Root: Trauma, chaos, or inconsistency in your past that made control feel like survival
Until the root is exposed and addressed, the fruit keeps growing in your relationships, your business, your health, and even in how you relate to God.
Don’t Just Trim the Tree. Check the Soil
I know you’re tired of working on yourself and still ending up in the same cycles. That frustration? That “why is this still happening” feeling? That’s your soul telling you it’s time to go deeper.
You don’t need more surface strategies.
You need truth.
You need healing.
You need root work.
Grow Through It
If this hit home, take a moment to sit with these questions:
1. What “fruit” is showing up in your life that feels out of alignment with who you really are?
2. What emotions are tied to it? What thoughts come up when it happens?
3. Where did you first learn or experience that belief or feeling? Childhood? Church? A past relationship?
4. What does God’s Word say that directly counters that root?
5. What would healing that root change in your life?
And if you’re ready to walk this out step by step, I created something to guide you.
The Root or Fruit Worksheet helps you pause, reflect, and uncover the deeper reasons behind what’s showing up in your life. It’s simple, faith-centered, and powerful for personal use or with your clients.
